How to roll back a WordPress core upgrade
Restore from backup
- Backup your site before updating
- Confirm that your webhost has a current backup
- Consider a staging site before upgrading
- Use a backup plugin if needed
- Easiest free I’ve found is WPvivid (but there are several options)
- Rollback by restoring from current backup
Other options to rollback WordPress core
- Download and FTP 6.6.2 files
- Use a plugin:
- WP Downgrade | Specific Core Version (old, but works) or
- Core Rollback (have not tried yet, we can test)
Questions for the Group

Editor Features and Topics
Preferences / Starter Patterns
- Turn off starter patterns for new pages
Zoom Out (Anne’s video)
- Most useful for adding and managing patterns
- Once zoomed out, you can only work at the pattern level.
- Experiment with shuffling patterns
- Note that this always works in the site editor, not always at the page and post level.
- Themes and plugins can interfere with this, especially around meta boxes, e.g. SEO plugins
- Note that the Zoom is a toggle. When zoomed out, double clicking a pattern will zoom in.
- Good for seeing high-level style options
Meta Boxes on Pages
- Variable height sticky metabox section
Simplified Query Loop Block (Anne’s video) (Anne’s post)
- Default is Inherit query so posts appear vs. having to set manually
- Easier to use options in options panel
- Option for Default vs. Custom
- Custom settings now all in the sidebar and easier to use
- Better choices, filtering, style variations, width (e.g. full width container, inner width content)
Simplified Image Galleries
- Easy drag and drop from file manager to page
- Lightbox-type link
Image Gallery from Drag & Drop
- Also: expand on click setting (link) from image settings
HEIC (Apple) Photo Import
- Automatically converts to jpg
- Can be host dependent, i.e. they must have the proper code running on the server.
More Design Tools across More Blocks
- Background Images
- Quotes and Verse blocks now support background images.
- Shadow option for Group block
- Borders and colors added to more blocks
- Demos:
- Button, Border and border radius for column and columns
- Group block shadow on group,
- Background on quote
- Note there are (hidden) settings for background images
- List Items, change text color, border, padding
- More
Grid of design options for each block
Roster of design tools per block (WordPress 6.7 edition)
Section Styles (look into how)
- In zoom out, select a section’s style variations, in block themes.
- These can be created by you.
Font Management (Anne’s video) – Ray
- Now no-code or theme.json needed
- SE, Styles, Typography
- Installation is easier and clearer, e.g. select all variants, clear list of those included with theme vs. added.
- At bottom of Styles, Typography is Fon Sizes to set sizes for each size label. Can also set a new label (“custom”) and Fluid Typography options.
Editor Styles
- Browsing styles now includes color and typography presets, that can be selected independently.
Enhanced Data Views
Twenty Twenty-Five
- Preset style variations, color palettes, typography settings.
- 70 patterns, many variations of color and font groups, that can be mixed as desired
The new default Twenty Twenty-five theme provides you with a large amount of style variations as well as an extensive pattern library. When you create a new page you can select one of the numerous starter patterns or page patterns to use as a base to work from.
To turn this setting off click on the three vertical dots top right select preferences and then select or deselect the option to show starter patterns.
Whether you’re running a portfolio site, a photo blog or a news site, this theme offers the flexibility you need. It features a variety of blocks and layouts to help you create a site tailored to your content.
